The only way manually to control the SEO keywords you rank for is through link juice control. You can get more external link juice by building backlinks to a certain URL and, in that way, push it for its main keywords to the top of Google, if the content on the URL is good enough. That method is well known. But the same applies to internal link juice. You can give a certain URL more internal link juice and push it in Google to the top. I have made a lot of videos about link juice you should probably watch before this one, because this method only works if you have a great link juice distribution already applied to your online store.

If that is the case, then I present to you the magic SEO weapon: the prefooter. You have probably seen those on some websites and wondered what they are good for. Well, if you put a prefooter on your online store’s homepage and link subcategories or category filter combination URLs in it which aren’t linked from the main menu, you will boost them. You can use it for product URLs or even blog articles, depending on what you want to push. The anchor text needs to be the keyword you want to push it for. No need to link anything from the prefooter which is already linked from the homepage. But one thing only a few SEOs notice and do themselves is that there are different prefooters. The simplest way to push up to 50 URLs is to implement the prefooter on the homepage or sitewide. That is at least what most SEOs think. But actually there is no need for a sitewide footer. You can put a unique prefooter in every level 1 category to link its subcategories from level 3 or 4 or any category filter combination URLs below level 1. You can also use a unique prefooter on the blog homepage.

But there are some URLs where you can also put an additional prefooter. Those URLs that have one hundred percent link juice and seem unimportant at first. Legal URLs are linked from every page of an online store and therefore have one hundred percent link juice, which they usually don’t redistribute besides the menu. So you can install a unique prefooter on each of those pages and link any content you want to push which isn’t linked in the menu again. That is what most SEOs skip, but it can be very effective, especially for seasonal categories or products. Two or even three months before a particular season starts, you can strengthen the categories and some bestseller products via the prefooters and get top rankings exactly when the season starts.
